Our History

It is known that the building was originally a private home but that it was also, at some stage used as officers’ quarters. The stone boundary wall on the western side of the property is believed to be the oldest existing structure in Queenstown and is thought to be the remains of a fort.

When we bought the property in 2001 it had been badly neglected and was sadly in need of TLC. We were keen to save what we could so we still have the beautiful old stained glass front door and windows and tiled floor in the entrance hall, the pressed steel ceilings, the sash windows, the broekie lace on the front verandah, the fire places, the old doors and many of the Oregon pine floors, although some had been ripped out and sold and the mud plaster was falling off the walls. There was no garden other than a few old trees.

Fortunately we both have a love for beautiful old things so we kept everything we possibly could and sourced replacements, where necessary, that would fit in without changing the essential character of the old building. We have collected furniture, artworks and decor items over the years, to create this wonderfully elegant, gracious old-world home which we share with others.
